Alternative: Use Gemini to Listen to Articles Opened in Chrome
Ditch the screen, tune into your articles! iPhone user or not, Gemini can read aloud any article on your phone, regardless of browser or operating system. It’s the hands-free reading revolution, available on iOS and Android.
Open Chrome and navigate to an article that you find interesting.
Unleash Gemini! Android users, simply summon it with “Hey Google” (or your custom hotword). iPhone devotees, dive into the Gemini app. Once inside, tap theLiveicon nestled at the bottom – your portal to interactive AI awaits.

On the new screen, select the second button from the bottom menu.

Unlock Gemini’s vision: Share your Android screen or beam your iPhone display. Let the AI see what you see, and watch the magic happen.

Ready to have Gemini narrate your articles? Simply pull up the Chrome app, open the article, and chat with Gemini like you would a friend. Type, “Read this article aloud to me,” and prepare to listen as Gemini transforms text into speech!
Note : see the red notification at the top, which indicates Gemini is Live and viewing your screen.
The method is serviceable, though not without its quirks. Gemini occasionally needs a nudge – a simple “Continue” – as it sometimes pauses mid-article, particularly with shorter paragraphs. Longer form pieces, thankfully, present fewer interruptions. Once engaged, however, a single word is all it takes to keep Gemini turning the page.
“But here’s where things get really interesting: you can have Gemini whip up audio summaries of articles. I put it to the test with my own guide on crafting iPhone-esque Calling Cards on Android. First, I asked for a general summary. Then, I drilled down, requesting the specific steps for creating a Calling Card using Google’s Phone app. However, it stumbled when I asked about alternatives mentioned in the article, initially claiming there weren’t any (wrong!). A second try got it right, proving that while powerful, Gemini still needs a watchful eye.”
Like with anything AI, you need to always double-check the results and not rely 100% on what it tells you.
Finished chatting with Gemini? On iPhones, a simple tap on the Dynamic Island (or a swipe down from the upper-right corner on older models) instantly reopens the Gemini Live interface. Android users can simply pull down the notification shade from the top.
Press theXicon (Hangup).

You will now be able to view a transcript of your live conversation with Gemini.

Psst! iPhone Safari users, did you know your browser can actuallyreadto you? Hidden within is a nifty “Listen to Page” feature just waiting to transform your articles into podcasts.
