AMD and Nvidia Might Compete With Qualcomm

This bombshell news, just out of Reuters, has the likes of PC enthusiasts cranking up the excitement: AMD and Nvidia, the titans of graphics and processing, are said to be putting together a plan to thwart Qualcomm’s Windows on Arm dominance through custom silicon. If the sources are to be believed, both companies could be marketing Arm chips by 2025! Get prepared, as the arrival of these giants could cause a tectonic shift in the Windows PC landscape.

Let us not dismiss it as a mere pipe dream, for both of them are seasoned in mobile processor development, combining powerful CPU and GPU cores-even dabbling in Arm architecture. All of a sudden, everything is at stake if either company manages to out-innovate Qualcomm and secure a more compelling partnership with Microsoft.

Rumors are getting louder that Nvidia, under CEO Jensen Huang, is considering using Intel’s manufacturing mojo for its Arm-based CPU chipsets. The fact that Huang was previously considering Intel foundries for GPU fabrication confirms that a bigger partnership could be imminent. Meanwhile, the much-talked-about AMD-Intel alliance simply refuses to bear fruit, leaving AMD dependent on TSMC, which stands almost exclusively responsible for manufacturing Arm CPUs, for rolling out its chips.
